Unemployment benefit in Turkey (işsizlik ödeneği) is a temporary income support paid by İŞKUR, the national employment agency, to insured employees who lose their job through no fault of their own. The benefit equals 40% of your average gross earnings over the last 4 months, capped at 80% of the gross monthly minimum wage. This tool applies the official 2026 parameters to compute the monthly net benefit, how long it is paid and the total amount over the payment period.

How is it calculated?

Four steps:

  1. Average gross earnings: the average of your last 4 months' gross pay subject to social security premiums (gross, not take-home pay).
  2. Gross benefit = 40% of that average.
  3. Ceiling: the gross benefit cannot exceed 80% of the gross monthly minimum wage (TRY 33,030).
  4. Stamp duty is the only deduction; no income tax or social security premium is withheld. Net benefit = gross benefit − stamp duty.

The payment duration depends on premium days paid in the 3 years before termination: 600 days of premiums earn 180 days of benefit, 900 days earn 240 days, and 1,080 or more days earn 300 days. Below 600 premium days no benefit is granted.

Example

The gross minimum wage in 2026 is TRY 33,030. For someone whose last 4 months were paid at the minimum wage, the gross benefit is 40% of that amount — this is also the lower bound of the benefit. For higher earners the ceiling kicks in: the gross benefit can never exceed 80% of the minimum wage. In both cases the only deduction is stamp duty. Frequently asked questions

How is unemployment benefit calculated in Turkey?

It is 40% of your average gross earnings over the last 4 months before termination. The result is capped at 80% of the gross monthly minimum wage, and only stamp duty is deducted from it.

What is the maximum unemployment benefit?

The ceiling is 80% of the gross monthly minimum wage, which is TRY 33,030 in 2026. However high your average salary, the benefit cannot exceed this cap; the tool shows the current ceiling amount.

How long is unemployment benefit paid?

Depending on premium days in the last 3 years, it is paid for 180, 240 or 300 days: 600 premium days qualify for 180 days, 900 days for 240 days, and 1,080 or more days for 300 days.

What if I have fewer than 600 premium days?

No benefit is granted; at least 600 days of unemployment insurance premiums within the last 3 years are required. The tool clearly states when this condition is not met.

Is unemployment benefit taxed in Turkey?

Only stamp duty is deducted; there is no income tax or social security premium on the benefit, so the net amount is very close to the gross amount.

Is the benefit based on gross or net salary?

It is based on gross salary: the average of your last 4 months' gross earnings subject to premiums, not your take-home pay. Enter the gross figures from your payslips into the tool.
